New research by PhD student Virgil Griffith has revealed that music fans who listen to artists such as Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z are among the least intelligent people around.
These fans racked up ratings well below the American SAT exam average. Dumb, but not the dumbest! That dubious honor is reserved for fans of rapper Lil Wayne who came in rock bottom.
On the other end of the intelli-spectrum are U2, Radiohead and Bob Dylan whose fans display high intelligence. However, the one band on this chart that gets me a little confused is Counting Crows. They are ranked above the three aforementioned bands and right below the highest on the list, Beethoven.
Via a MusicToob report, Griffith analyzed the artists that students listed on social networking Web sites -- then compared that to their test scores. The study, which can be found at Griffith's site, found that those American students who prefer indie music are generally smart -- but pop, rock and gospel fans rank at the lower end of the scale. With 133 bands and singers on the list, you may be surprised where the rest appear on the scale.
